Well known for the quality of beer and friendly atmosphere, we have an amazingly diverse range of customers which means things are rarely boring.  Students, lawyers, artists, musicians, doctors, brickies and just about every other profession can be spotted in the pub, creating a unique vibe.

We pride ourselves on the quality and range of our ale selection, aiming to have at least 5 to choose from at any one time.  We strongly believe in supporting local microbreweries, but like to mix things up with beers from around the Isles.

With the best views of the Quayside and river, as well as 2 beer gardens to enjoy it from, the Free Trade is perfect for a quiet read of the paper, or something a bit more lively at the weekend. Boasting possibly the best Jukebox in Newcastle and sandwiches fresh daily from Denes Deli, there's no need to ever leave.

What others say about us:

CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2008...

'Renowned for its wonderful views of the river Tyne, it's bridges and riverside buildings, this inn is a grand point from which to explore this interesting part of Newcastle.

A basic but welcoming pub it has a marvelous atmosphere, there is no TV or fruit machine but a free jukebox puts out classic sounds.

An excellent selection of beers is on offer,  mainly from local brewers, good value lunchtime sandwiches come from a local delicatessen.'

The Burglars Dog...

Two things that will strike you when you go to the Free Trade Inn:

1) It's an absolute dump, and
2) It's fantastic!

Even the punters seem like a friendly bunch with barely a trace of Big Market scum or lounge bar style-victims.

The standard of the pint's good and there's a choice of two beer gardens - one overlooking the Tyne (both the river and pub of that name) to park your arse in and watch stray dogs chomping on wine, corks and gravel.

Man, what's not to like about this place?'
